Objectives

The inability of scientists to place their work within the context of timely and feasible policy solutions has become a major challenge of our time. Hence, this network is built on the understanding that scientific answers to the ecological challenges of our time are not enough and that for science to practicably translate to improved livelihood and sustainable development practical, such findings must inform policies in more practical manner. To achieve these objectives, Suliver believes that researchers must be equipped to become more resourceful and impactful in their areas of interest. Suliver seeks to achieve these though the following hallmarks of our processes

Creating impact through providing evidence based solutions

As an action research organisation. Suliver seeks to solve sustainable development problems through providing more effective interventions. Our overall focus is to improve lives today while laying a positive precedence for sustainable outcomes and a sustainable future. Suliver researchers brings this to the forefront during the design of their areas of research

Engaging a global community of Sustainability and Livelihood researchers:

Suliver brings together network of Experiences and new career researchers and thinkers across disciplines, with a focus on innovative best practice. Reserchers from the Global North and South form synergies to promote mutual learning and effective science-policy dialogue for improved social outcomes.

Opening to new ways to approach sustainability and livelihood issues

Suliver is an open space for ideas on how to use science and policy to improve the sustainability of communities. We also present a valuable platform to pursue sustainability and livelihood policy processes through different stages of policy cycle and frameworks.

Breaking existing divisions between social and natural science disciplines

Suliver wishes to exploit all traditions of knowledge by integrating social and natural sciences in our quest for solutions to the challenges of our evolving planet and its consequences in various communities.

Appreciating the Multi-dimensional Foundations of Sustainability and Livelihood:

Suliver encourages a deeper understanding of the philosophy of “Sustainability and Livelihood” in order to place issues of sustainability in their historical and socio-political context.

Supporting the next generation of Sustainability and Livelihood Researchers:

In line with our research in sustainability, Suliver provides a strong support system for early career researchers through providing capacity building opportunities for education, research, institutional support and senior mentorship.
