Guiding Principles

SULIVER is a network of interdisciplinary researchers organized through a number of working groups within Sustainability and Livelihood programs and policy. The organization takes an integrated approach to sustainability and livelihood outcomes. For the most part, scientific findings have failed and at best, slow to inform policy. Few countries, especially in the Global South have adopted the necessary policy measures to address the challenges of sustainable development. In these instances policy responses are fragmented and incremental at best. The inability of scientists to place their work within the context of timely and feasible policy solutions has become a major challenge of our time.
Thus, this network is built on the understanding that scientific answers to ecological challenges of our time are not enough. For science to translate to improved livelihood and sustainable development practical, such findings must inform policies in more practical manner. In these groups, stimulating programs and policy agendas are created to drive empirical research in the ecosystem of science policy interface. The networking is constantly working together through joint publications, conference and workshops.
